AMPSURF Parts the waves for the Disabled
An inspiring group of surfers has been contributing to make a difference on the Central Coast, and now they intend to help others up and down the coast of California. Their determination to educate the public regarding disabled athletes led to the formation of the Association of Amputee Surfers
AMPSURF (www.ampsurf.com) will be putting together six learn to surf clinics this year up and down the coast of California. The dates for these clinics are as follows:

Ventura – Surfers Point May 17th and 18th
Huntington Beach -North side of Pier June 21st and 22nd
Santa Cruz - Cals/Steamers Lane July 12th and13th
Pismo Beach -South Side of Pier
with Operation Restoration III
August 16th and 17th
Aug. 14th thru 20th
San Diego
w/ Challenged America's Summer Sports Clinic
September 27th & 28th
Sept. 29th -Oct. 3rd
Oceanside - Harbor November 8th and 9th
The clinic schedule will be as follows for each day:
Meet & greet on the beach 7:00-7:30am
Dry land instruction 7:30 -8:30am
In water surf instruction 8:30 -10:30am
Free surf 10:30 - 12:00pm
Their goal: to encourage surfing among amputees and others with disabilities. The clinics are free to participants who cannot afford it, although donations are appreciated from those who can. Donations will be used to help cover Clinic fees, equipment, and transportation. Surfing instruction will be provided by trained surf instructors, and experienced surfers. These instructors will work with each individual to meet his/her needs and abilities.
Participants are encouraged to contact AMPSURF in advance to make sure all efforts can be made to accommodate his/her disability. Please go to our site www.ampsurf.com and print out a sign up form.
Volunteers are needed. Ideally we need a one to one ratio of volunteers to participants sometimes 2to1. If you’d like to volunteer, Please go to our site www.ampsurf.com and print out a sign up form.
